Entry of information into the HuntSmart big game hunting software is accomplished using the same methods. Once you have an entry screen displayed as shown in Figure 1 by clicking the “Add”
or “Edit”
icons of an item or sub-item that is loaded in the working area, the different types of controls will be available in order for you to enter information.

Although the entry of information is done basically the same way, the controls available on each entry screen may vary. So, we will discuss all available controls regardless on which screen they may or may not be available.
Edit Box

The Edit Box allows you to enter text, numbers, or both according to the type of information that is being collected.
Combo Box

The Combo Box is an edit box with a scrollable drop-down list attached to it. You can 1) enter text directly into the edit box, or 2) select a value from the drop-down list. In order to display the drop-down list as shown in Figure 2, you can position your mouse cursor over the down arrow
located on the right side of the control and click the left mouse button.

Once you make your selection from the drop-down list, the value will be shown in the edit box as shown in Figure 3.

If the edit box of the combo box allows you to enter text and you do so, the text you enter will automatically be added to the drop-down list for future selection after you click on the “SAVE” button. However, if the edit box does not allow you to enter text, you will only be able to use the drop-down list to make your selection.
Date Control

The Date Control allows you to 1) enter the month, day, and year, or 2) select the date from a drop-down calendar. In order to display the drop-down calendar as shown in Figure 4, you can position your mouse cursor over the down arrow
located on the right side of the control and click the left mouse button.

You can navigate the drop-down calendar by one of the following method:
1) using the left and right arrows on top of the control as shown in Figure 5,
2) clicking on the name of the month which will display a month listing as shown in Figure 6, and/or
3) clicking on the four digit year which will display the year selection tool as shown in Figure 7.

Once you select the date from the drop-down calendar, the date will be shown in the date control.
Time Control

The Time Control allows you to enter the time by 1) typing the hour, minute, and second, or 2) using the up/down control
. In order use the keyboard to type the time, you must position the cursor on the time position you wish to edit by using the left/right keyboard cursor keys, then type in the time value or use the up/down keyboard cursor keys until the time value is reached. In order to use the up/down control
, you must position the cursor on the time position you wish to edit, then click the up/down arrow with your mouse until the time value is reached.
Coordinates Control

The Coordinates Control allows you to enter the latitude and longitude coordinates of a given position. If the coordinates label displays the text, “not entered”, this means that no coordinates have been entered. If the coordinates has been entered, coordinates in the format of latitude/longitude will be displayed
. In either case, you can click on the blue underlined hotlink to display the coordinate entry screen as shown in Figure 8 in order to add or edit the coordinates.

Once you have entered the coordinates and clicked on the “OK” button, the coordinates will be validated. If the coordinates are validate, then the coordinates label will be updated with the new coordinates. However, if you click the “Cancel” button, then nothing will be changed.
If you click the “Clear Coordinates” hotlink on the coordinate entry screen, the coordinate fields will be cleared.
If you have valid latitude/longitude coordinates entered and you click the “Calculate UTM” hotlink, the UTM values will be calculated and displayed on the screen. The use of this action is for informational purposes only and is not required by you.
Moon Phase Control

The Moon Phase Control will display the phase of the moon according to the Item’s date. For example, if you create a “Harvest” record and enter the date/time of the harvest, the moon phase will automatically be calculated and displayed according to the date/time.
Check Box

The Check Box represents a Yes/No field that can be set to “Yes” (checked)
or “No” (unchecked)

File Location Control

The File Location Control gives you the ability to browse and select a file to attach to the selected Item’s record. Once you click on the blue underline hotlink, the next screen in the process will be displayed for your input.
If the file location label displays the text, “no file selected”
, or the file can not be located, then all other controls on the screen will be disabled until a file is selected. You can click on the hotlink to select a file or cancel the process by clicking the “Close” button.
Photo Viewer

The Photo Viewer will display the image of the file attached by the File Location Control. You can zoom-in/zoom-out the image by clicking the left/right mouse buttons while the cursor is on top of the image. You can print the image by clicking the “Print Photo” button.
Memo Control

The Memo Control gives you the ability to enter multiple lines of text.
Buttons

The “Save”, “Preview”, and “Close” buttons are available for all data entry screens. Each button will be discussed below.
Save Button
The “Save” button is enabled
once changes are made to any control on the screen. If you click the “Save” button, all changes made will be saved and the “Save” button will again be disabled
.
Preview Button
The “Preview” button will display the preview screen which will also give you the option to print.
Close Button
The “Close” button will check for unsaved changes before closing the screen. If unsaved changes exist, you will be prompted as shown in Figure 9 to save the changes.
